Althea Bryan Farr is an Associate Attorney with Hunker Appeals. Althea began her practice of law after a rewarding career in both the public and private healthcare sector as a critical care registered nurse and critical care nurse manager.
Althea obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master’s degree in Nursing Education from the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University after immigrating to the United States from Jamaica. Passionate about quality, compliance, and cultural competence in healthcare, Althea dedicated time out of an already busy schedule to mentor nurses and nursing students while serving as an adjunct professor at the university level, and in the clinical setting. Althea modeled and taught professionalism in nursing, critical care, and the care of elderly dementia patients.
Althea continued her education by entering law school part-time at Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law while managing a busy Intensive Care unit serving United States Veterans in the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. During law school, Althea was a member of the Craig S. Barnard Inn of Court and the Caribbean Law Students Association.
Althea successfully transitioned to a career in law serving as a part-time legal assistant on the defense team in one of the largest Medicare fraud cases involving white-collar crime, health care fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy while in law school. Althea later transitioned to the practice of law full-time working in one of Florida’s Largest Insurance defense law firms as an Associate Attorney. Althea’s focus at Hunker Appeals is in Health Law, Professional Malpractice, Civil Rights, Employment and Labor Law, and other areas of law.
Althea’s unique experience as a critical registered nurse informs her approach to law; she is compassionate, solutions-driven, and an ardent advocate unafraid to go the extra mile for her clients.
Althea is dedicated to raising her family, philanthropic efforts focused on Women’s health and Children with Rare Diseases, and is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
