V. Ashley Paxton

Ashley Paxton is a founding Partner of Hunker Appeals. Her practice includes appellate law, litigation support, defamation, constitutional issues, insurance bad faith claims, and many other areas of the law. Born and raised in Atlanta, Ashley obtained her Bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia. After college, Ashley taught English and Composition as an adjunct instructor while earning her Master's Degree in English. Her first published work, "Crocodiles in Commerce" won an award for creative non-fiction. She later completed her Master's thesis on the "Southern Grotesque" satire of Flannery O'Connor.

Ashley continued teaching and mentoring hundreds of university students while raising her two young children and working her way through law school at the University of Miami. In law school, Ashley participated in a highly selective federal appellate clinic, earned a position on the International and Comparative Law Review, and published an article on constitutional privacy rights. She also interned with a federal judge in the Southern District of Florida and for the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel for juvenile delinquents.

Following law school, Ashley worked for two years on one of largest Medicare fraud cases to date. The trial was seven weeks long, involved more than 25 testifying government witnesses, and included over 550 government exhibits. While on the trial team, Ashley conducted research and analysis on one of the most critical issues in the case: whether the prosecution’s conduct repeatedly violated the defendant's attorney-client privilege. After six full days of hearings on the issue, the Magistrate Judge issued a 100-page order outlining the extent of the prosecution’s conduct.

Before joining Tom in founding Hunker Appeals, Ashley practiced at one of the largest insurance defense firms in Florida, gaining experience in appellate and trial court litigation in a wide range of practice areas. Ashley's work consistently reflects her reverence for constitutional liberty and manifests its own life through Ashley's passion for inspired and uninhibited, collaborative intellectual problem-solving.
